<title>An interior view of the front door's stained glass. Here, you can really see the detail in the tree bark. I achieved this effect by layering the solder. To make sure it was structurally sound, I used glass for the core of the tree with reinforcing flat, copper strips on the sides and to fill any gaps. I then covered all of this with copper foil and applied the solder on top.</title>

<title>The front entry makes a commanding statement. The 150 pound, mahogany front door was made by a local woodworker, Joe Madden of Madden Millworks. I made the stained glass myself to match the living room wall sconce glass I had made earlier from Amy's design. The chandelier is a one-of-a-kind by New York artist Karl Berry.</title>

<title>The front entry was a challenge as it was a very dark area during construction. We added a skylight so we wouldn't have to have a light on all the time but it would still be dark at night. I asked Su Bacon of Historic Lighting to design a canopy to hang below the skylight so the light could pass through during the day. This chandelier was designed by Karl Berry and found at Su's store, HL Ranch, in Monrovia, CA. The canopy is made of mahogany and ebony and crafted by Sam Mossaedi who crafted the lights at the Torrey Pines Lodge among others.</title>

<title>I made the stained glass window after living in the house about a year (Amy sketched the birds). We wanted to see who was at the door without people seeing in from the street so I used a seeded, wavy, clear glass. The tree trunk is solder that is layered to look like bark. The leaves were designed to match the living room wall sconces in which I also did the glass.</title>

A hard, often overlooked item is the window and door installation. All windows and doors had to be at the exact same elevation at the top so that the picture rail would be perfectly level going around the room.</title>

<title>I am standing outside the office looking at the Honduran mahogany staircase. The handrail is made of Brazilian cherry just like the floor. If you look closely, ebony accents (teeth) can be seen just below the cap on the newel posts.
The tapestry is a Mackintosh design and fills the wall space nicely.
The chandelier was designed by Su Bacon and built by New York artist, Karl Berry. The Mahogany canopy that it hangs from was built by master woodworker Sam Mossaedi.</title>
